Drosera cayennensis is, to my knowledge at least, super rare in cultivation. I guess I could sell these the seeds at an exorbitant rate. I won't do that. Firstly, the detemination of this taxon is not 100%. Usually the rule in the grower community is to label a plant with a shakey or missing determination a NOID or sp. 1 or something similar. My background is in systematic botany where uncertain determiantions are prefixed with the abbreviation "cf.", which stands for the Latin word confer, meaning "compare". Cf indicates that the determination is a best guess and whoever it may concern should compare the cf. taxon to the referenced species. Secondly, I prefer if prices are set according to difficulty of propagation or difficulty of obtaining a crop of seeds. This plant seeds ok and is easy to grow, and it isn't some new variety I've been working on and selecting for years. And if you decide to grow it we're on a good way to making this Drosera cf. cayennensis more readily available.

Description

In 2021 I sowed a lot of Drosera seed packs obtained from one of the larger colletions in EU. I lost two of the labels, so the two pots were labeled only as 'sp. 1' and 'sp.2' for years. Plants labeled as 'sp.1' grew into very nice, small, compact, red rosettes. It was a species I never saw before and had no luck detemining. It was very obviously not even a species I ordered. So, I finally contacted the grower that sent me the seeds, and they were able to identify the plant as 'Drosera pumila'. This determination seems to be correct, however if we have a Drosera specialist reading this, I would be most happy if this determination was revised.

The species originally described as Drosera pumilla by E. Santos in 1986 is classified as a heterotypic synonym of Drosera cayennensis Sagot ex Diels.

The warm temperate Drosera consist of the Drosera capillaris group and the Drosera brevifolia group. These species grow in areas with a definite but mild winter. The plants can handle frost but do not form hibernacula during the winter and can not tolerate extensive freezes. They can be grown outdoors year round in USDA zones 9 and warmer. In colder climates they can be grown outdoors during during the warm months and overwintered in a cold frame, garage window, or cold greenhouse. They can also be grown in heated greenhouses and terrariums but will show periods of semi-dormancy.

Drosera brevifolia and related species are found in North and South America. The group includes Drosera brevifolia found in the south eastern USA and south coastal Brazil, D. colombiana found in Colombia, D. panamensis found in Panama, and D. cayennensis found in Venezuela and northern Brazil.
