Sarracenia x swaniana 'BARBAPAPA' selected cultivar of a naturally occuring hybrid between S. purpurea var. venosa and S. minor var. minor. The cultivar name is a reference to the cartoon character barbapapa. The round stocky red pitchers actually do resemble a barbapapa.

Sarracenia BARBAPAPA is a beginner sarra, and winterhardy too. If grown indoors care should be taken that it recieves enough light to keep the nice deep red color. In lower light the pitchers are green, with red venation. This is also the color phase all developing leaves go thru. Each growing tip produces many pitchers, that stay over the winter, which is a typical purpurea trait. Because of the number of pitchers and their girth, the plant looks clumpier than it actually is.
